Wellness Challenge 2019: Day 8 and I’m moving again! But, I was a bit naughty today. I actually didn’t do the workout on the NYT Well Challenge page, instead, I finished an 8fit Tabita workout. It was around the same length and the challenge for today wasn’t actually about the exercises but more about the food you eat before or after exercising. So, I thought it didn’t matter too much…
So, fuel… I mean food… Or fuel. Or both? I don’t eat before I workout. I don’t think I ever have. Even back when I was doing martial arts four times a week, I’d do it after school and before dinner. Always on an empty stomach. There’s a lot of conflicting information out there about what you should/shouldn’t eat when you’re working out. And honestly, I don’t have any answers. I’m not sure if I’m doing it right today!? I ate coconut, almond and banana porridge after my workout… it seemed like a good idea. But who knows.
What I thought
I thought that this task was going to tell me something I didn’t know. But it relayed some information I was already aware of. Protein is king/queen in the eyes of the post-workout. So, eat it and shut up. But it doesn’t really explain why… Or what… Or how much…
This challenge has been good at making me remember the things that I should be doing, but don’t. I know that after a workout I shouldn’t eat shit food, but I do it anyway. Then complain about it later. Why? I don’t know. Even though I don’t know what I’m doing, it’s pretty clear that biscuits, crisps, pancakes and pastries are not a good post-workout fuel. So I’m opting out of all that crap… at least I’m trying to. And replacing it with whole foods that have a hell of a lot more nutritional value.
